This quote means that when you are an athlete its not about being a really good one its more of who you as an individual what makes you the great person you are. Having a good characteristics is more valuable than being a great basketball player . Because part of you being a great person is a characteristic needed to be a more successful and better player in basketball . Part of you being a recognized good player is you having a good attitude towards your teammates , coach , wins and your loses . You need to be a great role model during your games and practices . People dont see the good in you as basketball player but they are able to tell what type of person you are . Its more beneficial to have a good personality in you because everywhere you go , you need that to interact with new people and a good basketball player you will just need the basketball skills during games and practices . So being a good basketball player isnt as important as being a great person in general .
